On Thursday, May 12, 2022, The New Orleans (LA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated presented awards to our awesome local spelling bee winners.
The Chapter presented trophies, certificates and swag bags to the four champion spellers:
First Place: Matthew Yi – 4th Grader at My Brother’s Home School
Second Place (Tie): Abigail Curtis-Moore – 7th Grader at St. Angela Merici School &
Kailyn Randall – 6th Grader at Emily C. Watkins Elementary School
Third Place: Kennedi Rybiskie – 5th Grader at West St. John Elementary School
The national finals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee will take place May 29 – June 3, 2022 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, MD. Matthew Yi will participate for the 2022 Scripps National Spelling Bee title.
Additionally, the chapter’s very own 2021 Scripps National Spelling Bee Champion, Zaila Avant-garde, and former New Orleans (LA) Chapter President and Spelling Bee Committee Chair, Vonda Flentroy-Rice, will be special guests during the national telecast.
