On Friday, Dec. 1st, the National Trends & Services Facet of the New Orleans Chapter of The Links, Incorporated hosted an inspirational program, “Getting in Step with the Queen”. The activity was held in connection with the chapter’s Project L.E.A.D. umbrella program – College Readiness 101.
Miss Dillard University, Malaysha Seals and Ms. Xavier University, Shalani Taylor, along with a moderator, Rachael Clayton (a recent Tulane University graduate), spoke to Bethune’s 8th grade girls about attending HBCUs, preparing for college, requirements to attend college and college life as a student and in their roles as HBCU Queens. The 8th graders were extremely intrigued and fascinated.
The chapter also donated 5 books to the Bethune Library on the subject of HBCUs and college readiness. Additionally, chapter members created a wall of approximately 20 college pennants (with more to come) representing colleges attended by New Orleans chapter members.
The program was enlightening, thought provoking and importantly gave the Bethune student an opportunity to interact and converse with peers.
