“Tell Them We are Rising” – The Story of Black Colleges and Universities

Tell Them We Are Rising, The Story of Black Colleges and Universities, explores the pivotal role historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) have played over the course of 150 years in American history, culture, and identity. Stanley Nelson’s film reveals the rich history of HBCUs and the power of higher education to transform lives and advance civil rights and equality in the face of injustice.

Fifty eight of the nation’s 105 HBCUs call the Southern Area of The Links, Incorporated home. If you didn’t attend one, you surely have a friend or family member who did. These public and private institutions played an important role in our history, but their work is not done.

The documentary was screened at Dillard University on November 14, 2017. University President Walter Kimbrough, along with Film Producer/Director Stanley Nelson and Producer Stacey L. Holman, provided the audience with an enlightening Q & A session after the screening.

SAVE THE DATE for the PBS presentation of the documentary on Monday, February 19, 2018.
