UNCF Walk & Komen Race for the Cure

2015 marks the 28th anniversary of theUNCF New Orleans Walk for Education! 

On Saturday, October 10, members ofThe New Orleans Chapter of the Links, Incorporated will be Walking for Education at the Audubon Park Riverview, 6500 Magazine Street.  The Chapter and UNCF invites you and your family to celebrate this milestone as funds are raised to help Louisiana students and two UNCF member institutions, Xavier and Dillard Universities. Each year, the Walk for Education attracts thousands of students, parents, educators and community members who believe that education is a priority for everyone. The Walk for Education is the premier education run in New Orleans each year, filled with entertainment, great food, activities and even a few surprise guests!

October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Komen Race for the Cure will be held on Saturday, October 24th in City Park and is open to member, family and friends who are interested in finding a cure for breast cancer.  The New Orleans Chapter of the Links, Incorporated invites you to join them  as they walk to bring awareness to breast cancer. Black women with breast cancer have the highest death rate and the lowest survival rate of any racial or ethnic group.  In January 2008, The Links, Incorporated announced an unprecedented collaboration to mobilize the black community to end breast cancer through Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s Circle of Promise campaign. This partnership with The Links, Incorporated accelerates Komen’s ability to reach thousands of women in the U.S. and around the globe by working with the 275 Link chapters to provide awareness, education, social support, and hope to breast cancer survivors, their family members and communities.
