Zaila Avant-garde added to Ebony’s Power 100 List

Iconic publisher of all things Black excellence, EBONY, announced the return and reimagining of its signature program – the 2021 EBONY Power 100. The Honorees embody the remarkable achievements of African-Americans across industries and marks the culmination of the brand’s 75th anniversary year.

This year’s list spans 10 categories and highlights outstanding leaders across a variety of fields and disciplines from business, sports, media, activism, music to entertainment and more. According to Ebony, “After what has been a most challenging and turbulent year, this year’s nominees and honorees represent a wide range of people who persevered and continue to do the work. And, in doing so, they have contributed immensely to their respective fields and communities – making a significant impact on the cultural landscape each in their own way. From grassroots organizers to the arts and entertainment to the corporate boardrooms, we are very excited to shine a light on these amazing people because no one can celebrate Black excellence quite like EBONY!”

In the NEXT GEN category, Louisiana’s Scripps National Spelling Bee Champion, and local spelling bee winner, Zaila Avant-garde, continues to be admired not only for her amazing spelling acumen, but also for her ability to be a positive leader and role model to the Next Gen in the African American community.

As local sponsor of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, the New Orleans (LA) Chapter continues to follow Zaila and keeps the spotlight shining on her as she rises to new heights.
