Call for Local Competitors in Scripps National Spelling Bee – Deadline Extended to January 31, 2022

The New Orleans (LA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated invites eligible students in the fourth through eighth grades to participate in the local competition for the Scripps National Spelling Bee Program. The 33rd Annual New Orleans Spelling Bee is tentatively scheduled for March 19, 2022. Students from public and nonpublic schools from a seven-parish area, including home-schooled students are eligible to participate. Each school can enter up to ten (10) spellers and a speller must not have been a previous final winner in the local bee.

The winner will receive an all expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. to compete in the 2022 Scripps National Spelling Bee. Prizes will be awarded to the top three spellers, including reference books, gift certificates and a trophy.

In order for students to participate in the local spelling bee, they must do so through their school and each school must enroll with the Scripps National Spelling Bee at http://www.spellingbee.com . There is a $175 enrollment fee (per school) and the final enrollment date is January 31, 2021.

Local spelling bee winner Zaila Avant-garde, the first-place winner of its local competition of the 32nd Annual Scripps National Spelling Bee, won the 2021 national competition.
