The New Orleans (LA) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated invited students from our local HBCU partners to participate in the Urban League of Louisiana’s Big Health Event in fulfillment our Links Love HBCU priority to provide HBCU students with opportunities for community service learning (i.e., volunteerism). Thirty students from Dillard University, Southern University at New Orleans, and Xavier University of Louisiana were in attendance. The students facilitated STEM demonstrations, provided health education, and/or blood pressure screenings (pharmacy and nursing students). Upon completion of their volunteer hour duties, the students were able to engage with other HBCU students, verify their voter registration status and/or register to vote, attend panel discussions, and/or participate in the many live demonstrations and simulations. As advertised, this was not just a health fair, it was a whole health affair!
